Hello, we are Cometa, a multidisciplinary design collective based in Amsterdam & The Hague. We explore new possibilities in all sorts of (digital) media. Enthusiastically we have been working on:

Update — Schoolverschillen.nl

Interactive infographics for the Inspection of Education (Onderwijs Inspectie), a department of the Dutch government. The Inspection of Education releases a report yearly about the State of Education (De staat van het Onderwijs). The main conclusion of the report is visualized online at Schoolverschillen.nl

In collaboration with Boudewijn van Diepen.

Project — TLmagazine

View this project

Extraordinary, diverse and abundant, TLmag is a magazine that advocates for authenticity. Its biannual issues are published in both French and English and are distributed internationally. Each edition focuses on the latest developments in art, architecture, culture, design, fashion, photography, hospitality and urbanism.

A steady growth in readership made way for an online extension of the printed magazine. Cometa designed and built a full featured online magazine. Aiming for the best possible reading experience, big photography, bold typography, custom colored title pages and horizontal scrolling are the key elements in TLmagazine’s online webplatform.

“Good journalism is one of the hallmarks of civilised society. Brave journalism keeps freedom alive. Inquiring journalism is essential in a flourishing democracy. And thoughtful, open-minded journalism helps bind people of different outlooks together.”

For the European Press Prize we designed a visual identity that reflects these ideologies and celebrates the diversity of languages and cultures within Europe.

Update — Wie Wind Zaait

Wie Wind Zaait is a theater play which is made in the context of the commemoration of the great flood of 1916 in Waterland (Amsterdam North). An event of historic importance, 16 people died and the flood led to the closure of the Zuiderzee.

Currently we are designing the visual identity and website for this epic performance, which will take place in 2016, 100 years after the flood. Check the temporary website at wiewindzaait.nl

Update — Studio R

Currently we are working on a new identity and website for Studio R.

Pro Materia With Compliments cards

We just received the Pro Materia With Compliments cards from the printer.  The stationary is printed in PMS 285U (blue) and PMS 206U (red).

Update — KiKK festival

Enjoyed KiKK festival in Namur, Belgium. Loved the talks by “Keep it simple stupid” Tobias van Schneider, “Crazy critical arcade” Tim Hunkin, “Directors turned designers again” Anton & Irene and many others. Thanks, you were inspiring!

Update — TLmagazine

For TLmagazine we redesigned their website during the summer of 2015. Articles get a more serious and attractive stage in our new design: every article gets its own color based on the photography in the article, creating a new look every time and we introduced a daring horizontal scrolling experience which you discover after attempting to scroll down.

Vincent Meertens is a strong conceptual designer with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for both online and printed media. He is particularly enthusiastic about projects that have a positive impact on culture and community.

Since graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, he worked for renowned Amsterdam-based Lava Graphic Design, after which he followed his dream and moved to New York City. There he worked for award winning design studios Local Projects and Pentagram. He was also on a quest to explore the city to its fullest, which resulted in the making of the Subjective Map of New York City.

After returning to the Netherlands he worked as lead designer at CleverºFranke in Utrecht. Early 2015 he joined forces with Floris Douma and co-founded Cometa.

Floris Douma (1983) graduated in 2009 at the Man & Communication department of Design Academy Eindhoven with the installations Self Surveillance and Crisis Telex. After participating in the master class Mediafonds@Sandberg, he joined LUSTlab in August 2010, the research and design lab established by LUST in The Hague, the Netherlands. At LUSTlab he worked on self initiated experiments and on projects for clients like Audi, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Nederlands Film Festival.

Apart from a designer Floris is a developer working in HTML & CSS, Javascript, PHP, MySQL. Code is his favorite design tool.
